welcome to drunkjournal version 4.0.

this site has been around the block. it started in late 2002 as a group blog – a place for a bunch of alcoholic nerds to make posts while they were drunk.

to quote from the original mission statement:

drunk people write funny things. we like to read the things drunk people write and laugh at them. because we UNDERSTAND. we go “SHIT YEAH I WAS AS DRUNK AS THAT FUCKING IDIOT BEFORE.” we understand that we drink because we’re idiots and we’re idiots because we drink and this is our chronicle of that idiocy.

part of the fun of that original version was that nothing was ever edited or deleted afterwards, so people would have to live with whatever they posted even if it came back to bite them in the ass (and it happened to me at least once!)

that lasted until early 2005, and then it started getting boring and ridiculous and the site went on hiatus.

in 2007 drunkjournal came back as a semi-serious one-man wordpress blog discussing social and political topics related to alcohol and drinking. that got boring too and so the site was offline again until the middle of 2008.

it came back again, open to all, but a little directionless. wordpress wasn't an ideal platform for this sort of thing. by the end of 2009, drunkjournal was down again.

so, here we are again. drunkjournal is eight years old, and i'm bringing it back to its roots. easy to use, easy to participate. we'll see how it goes this time around.

if it doesn't work, then just wait a year, it will be back again.

in the meantime, have a drink and relax.
